The fairy tale story of Ideal Binary began in 2008 with brothers Aidan and Kevin Doolan. These brothers were considered as the vital ingredients at Upstart Games, the Irish mobile game publisher Barry O’Neill co-founded in 2002.
Ideal Binary, based in Dublin, produces and publishes interactive books and games and has experienced huge success with its series of 3D pop-up books for tablet devices such as the iPad. The company uses its proprietary PopIris 3D Book engine, a breakthrough toolset which allows developers to prototype, develop and publish vibrant ‘PopUp’ books with features such as puzzles, games and other interactive functions. Ideal Binary’s ever growing popularity has seen their free and paid-for versions of classic Grimm’s tales Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel and Rapunzel downloaded over 1,000,000 times.
A sprinkle of fairy dust
In late 2011 the company was given the opportunity to grow when it raised €750,000 in funding from AIB Seed Capital Fund and Enterprise Ireland. With this new investment came the massive potential for Ideal Binary to become one of the biggest publishers of content for tablet devices. In a very rapid time period the company underwent a ramp up and set about increasing its already talented team.
We had a great response from potential candidates and were sent hundreds of CVs from the moment our job vacancies were publicised. This is great complaint to have, but for us the sifting through applications, initiating and processing the hiring procedure was becoming a big overhead and taxing our resources.
ATS to the rescue!
So how did you find recruiting in the past?
We needed to recruit fast but not at the expense of missing great candidates for our positions. We had a great response from potential candidates and were sent hundreds of CVs from the moment our job vacancies were publicised. This is great complaint to have, but for us the sifting through applications, initiating and processing the hiring procedure was becoming a big overhead and taxing our resources.
Time was not on our side. But we overcame these issues when we started to use Zartis. In particular their applicant tracking system was a saviour. The ability to manage incoming and outgoing emails through our dashboard i.e. our command point for everyone and anything to do with our hiring process was fantastic. The automated email feature enabled us to give a prompt response to potential employees’ applications allowing us to conduct our recruitment in a very efficient manner.
The fact we could publicise our jobs on Twitter gave us added exposure. We were really surprised to see a high volume of applicants applying for roles through their LinkedIn profiles.
Exposure to the best in the right places
How else has an ATS helped?
The fact we could publicise our jobs on Twitter gave us added exposure. We were really surprised to see a high volume of applicants applying for roles through their LinkedIn profiles. We really appreciated this feature as it gave us a great overview of the candidate’s experience. Similarly the free jobs boards our jobs were posted to generated a good response. The quality and number of candidates our positions were exposed to was fantastic.
We were one of the early users of Zartis. It’s an excellent service backed by a great team. The team is very open to suggestions for new features and always encouraged us to give feedback on how the system could be improved. The feedback we gave to their team was adopted and implemented very quickly. They took all of it onboard and were sincerely grateful to have gotten it. We’ll be continuing to use Zartis as our team grows, and recommend it to any company with hiring needs, large or small.
