Rumor has it Facebook’s launching a jobs board

According to a Wall Street Journal article Facebook plans on shortly launching a jobs board. Is this a good thing? Yes.

Here’s why: referrals already account for somewhere between 20 and 40% of all new company hires. LinkedIn is great for recruiters finding candidates but it doesn’t fundamentally change the referral process. People refer people they know and trust for jobs in their companies. It’s a personal thing. Facebook is perfect for this.

We already have clients using Zartis for referrals in Facebook. It works. Really well. We recently blogged about Dommo, a Spanish ad agency, using social media for referrals. The number one source of candidates was Facebook. You can see the infographic here.

When somebody posts a job recommendation on Facebook it’s taken seriously, by the people that count, their friends.

People are adding more and more professional related information to their Facebook profiles. A jobs board within the Facebook ecosystem opens the potential for better matching algorithms which would inevitably be part of job posting service.

When do we click “Like”? Apparently we’ll see something as early as next month. The only question now is will Twitter follow suit.
