The Guest – Henrik Lundgren, CTO at Capture Energy

Henrik Lundgren is the CTO at Capture Energy, a forward-thinking energy storage solutions company focused on optimising battery systems through the use of data. Henrik joins us to talk about the state of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and the future in this area of sustainable energy solutions.

Harnessing the Power of Battery Energy Storage for a Sustainable Future

As the global energy landscape rapidly shifts towards renewable sources, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) has proven to be very useful in ensuring grid stability and optimising energy use.

In this episode, we explore the cutting-edge developments in BESS technology, focusing on the integration of AI and machine learning to enhance battery performance and longevity. We’ll delve into the advancements in lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, the complexities of the ancillary services market, and the challenges faced by the industry as it navigates through an era of rapid growth and innovation. Join us as we uncover how companies like Capture Energy are pioneering solutions that will shape the future of sustainable energy.

Some highlights in this episode include:

  • The role of AI in optimising battery energy storage systems
  • The volatile market of ancillary services for battery systems
  • Challenges and opportunities in this emerging industry
  • The future of large-scale battery energy storage across Europe

Q: So I was going to ask, where does software play a role within this space? Is that a key area you’re focusing on at the moment, or are there other areas as well?

“It’s something that we are looking into and want to explore more. But software comes into play in a lot of different areas, honestly. Not only in controlling the battery systems themselves but also in how we can use economic data to predict battery performance and compare different usage scenarios. We are dedicating a lot of our time and resources to gathering data and building models to understand how the battery systems can be used most efficiently.”
